Calculation of Cosmic Background Radiation Anisotropies and Implications
نویسنده
چکیده
We review the physical processes that are thought to produce anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background, focusing primarily (but not exclusively) on the effects of acoustic waves in the early Universe. We attempt throughout to supply an intuitive, physical picture of the key ideas and to elucidate the ways in which the predicted anisotropy depends on cosmological parameters such as Ω0 and h. The second half of these lectures is devoted to a discussion of microwave background data analysis techniques, with an emphasis on the analysis of the COBE DMR data. In particular, the Karhunen-Loève method of data compression is described in detail.

A Complete Treatment of Cmb Anisotropies in a Frw Universe
We generalize the total angular momentum method for computing Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies to Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spaces with arbitrary geometries. This uni es the treatment of temperature and polarization anisotropies generated by scalar, vector and tensor perturbations of the fluid, seed, or a scalar eld, in a universe with constant comoving curvature. The resulting fo...
متن کاملInflation and cosmic (super)strings: implications of their intimate relation revisited
We briefly discuss constraints on supersymmetric hybrid inflation models and examine the consistency of brane inflation models. We then address the implications for inflationary scenarios resulting from the strong constraints on the cosmic (super)string tension imposed from the most recent cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropies data.
متن کاملStatus of Observational Cosmology and Inflation
We review the latest developments in the determination of the cosmological parameters from the measurement of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR) anisotropies and of the Large Scale Structure (LSS) of the Universe. We comment finally on the implications for the primordial spectrum and the consequences for inflationary models.
متن کاملCosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies in the Cdm Model: a Covariant and Gauge-invariant Approach
We present a fully covariant and gauge-invariant calculation of the evolution of anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. We use the physically appealing covariant approach to cosmological perturbations, which ensures that all variables are gauge-invariant and have a clear physical interpretation. We derive the complete set of frame-independent linearised equations descr...
متن کاملSecondary CMB Anisotropies from Cosmological Reionization
We use numerical simulation of cosmological reionization to calculate the secondary CMB anisotropies in a representative flat low density cosmological model. We show that the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect (scattering off of moving electrons in the ionized intergalactic medium) is dominated by the nonlinear hydrodynamic and gravitational evolution of the density and velocity fields, rather t...
